ε3102Ἐρύκειν
to curb, to keep away
[e)ru/kein] and a)peru/kein ["to keep off"]: to deter, and to ward off. Polybius [writes]: "it was most important to keep the war away from Macedonia."
Ἐρύκειν καὶ Ἀπερύκειν· τὸ κωλύειν, καὶ ἀπείργειν. Πολύβιος· τὸ κυριώτατον ἦν τὸ τὸν πόλεμον ἐρύκειν ἀπὸ τῆς Μακεδονίας.
