Translation

The nominative [singular is] a)ri/s, [meaning] the carpentry tool.
"And bow-drills bound on both sides [with string]".¹
And elsewhere: "both the bow-drills and a file".²
But a)/ris [means] one who does not have a nose.³

Ἀρίδες· ἡ εὐθεῖα ἀρίς, τὸ τεκτονικὸν ἐργαλεῖον. καὶ γυρὰς ἀμφιδέτους ἀρίδας. καὶ αὖθις· αἵ τ' ἀρίδες ξυστήρ τε. Ἄρις δὲ, ὁ μὴ ἔχων ῥῖνα.
