Translation
[Meaning] the javelin made ready. Meaning [sc. one who is] controlling the spear in the armpit.
Xenophon [writes]: "he gave an order to all [the peltasts] to advance [with javelins] thong-secured, so as to throw the javelins whenever the signal was given; and the archers [he told] to have [their arrows] fitted to the strings, or thus1 so as to fire arrows whenever the signal was given. And the light-armed troops [he told] to have their wallets full of stones".2
