Translation

[Meaning] corps.
[Meaning] concentration, formation of massed cavalry.¹
But properly [it means] a company: "[let] one troop of men [bring] from the tent [...]."²
Eunapius [writes]: "then a troop of armored cavalry, more than 400, fell on the rearguard."³

Ἴλη· σύστημα. συστροφή, τάξις ὄχλου ἱππικοῦ. κυρίως δὲ φατρία. μία δ' ἐκκλησίας ἀνδρῶν ἴλη. Εὐνάπιος· τότε δὲ ἴλη τῶν καταφράκτων ἱππέων ὑπὲρ τοὺς υʹ ἐς τοὺς ὀπισθοφύλακας κατερράγη.
