Notes
- The headword verb means "sweep", as in Homer, Odyssey 20.149. It is commonly glossed, as here, by
sai/rein : see e.g. zeta 9 (and cf. sigma 144), Hesychius s.v.a)ko/rhtos, newko/ros, shkoko/ros , Photius and Etymologicum Magnum s.v.za/koros , and recommended by Phrynichus 55 oversarou=n . The full gloss given here also occurs elsewhere (see the references at Photius kappa961 Theodoridis); the association of the verb with books is otherwise unknown.
