ivory bastions, ivory towers
[Meaning] the churches all over the world, one in faith, in which God is honored. Also [sc. attested is] ba/rewn, the genitive plural. But baris [is] a stoa and a city.
Βάρεις ἐλεφάντιναι· αἱ πανταχοῦ τῆς γῆς ἐκκλησίαι, μία δὲ τῇ πίστει, ἐν αἷς γεραίρεται ὁ θεός. καὶ Βάρεων, ἡ γενικὴ τῶν πληθυντικῶν. Βάρις δὲ στοὰ καὶ πόλις.
