Whenever there was a need for the citizens or the resident aliens to contribute silver to the public treasury, the ones who inscribed this were called epigrapheis.
Ἐπιγραφεῖς· ὁπότε δεήσειεν ἀργύριον εἰσφέρειν εἰς τὸ δημόσιον τοὺς ἀστοὺς ἢ τοὺς μετοίκους, οἱ ταῦτα διαγράφοντες ἐπιγραφεῖς ἐκαλοῦντο.
