When someone came to Xenocrates the philosopher to study philosophy, although he knew neither geometry nor astronomy, [Xenocrates] said: "here with me [ = in my school] wool is not carded".
Κνάπτω. πρὸς Ξενοκράτην τὸν φιλόσοφον ἐλθών τις φιλοσοφῆσαι, μήτε γεωμετρικὴν μήτε ἀστρονομίαν μεμαθηκώς, τοῦτον εἰπεῖν· παρ' ἐμοὶ πόκος οὐ κνάπτεται.
