Translation

Meaning unlawful and not customary [ones], [produced] through adultery. That is, unhappily-married and ill-wedded [ones]. Sophocles [writes]: "for unmarried [and] unwedded conflicts came upon murderous marriages".¹

Ἄλεκτρα καὶ ἄνυμφα· ἀντὶ τοῦ παράνομα καὶ οὐ νενομισμένα, διὰ τὴν μοιχείαν. τουτέστι δύσλεκτρα καὶ κακόνυμφα. Σοφοκλῆς· ἄλεκτρ' ἄνυμφα γὰρ ἐπέβη μιαιφόνων γάμων ἁμιλλήματα.
