Translation
It is the eighth month amongst Athenians, sacred to Dionysus. It is so called because most things bloom (anthein) from the earth at that time.

Ἀνθεστηριών· ὄγδοος μήν ἐστι παρ' Ἀθηναίοις, ἱερὸς Διονύσου. κεκλῆσθαι δὲ αὐτὸν οὕτως, διὰ τὸ πλεῖστα τῶν ἐκ γῆς ἀνθεῖν τότε.
