Translation

[Meaning] they stood against, opposed.
"So the barbarians too attacked and sailed by the promontory of Pachynon with their ships arrayed in 2 columns."¹
And elsewhere: "for the men there, dying in the name of freedom, raised it to a level with Oita."²

Ἀντανήγοντο· ἀντεπαρετάσσοντο, ἀντεφέροντο. ἀντανήγοντο οὖν καὶ οἱ βάρβαροι καὶ τὴν τοῦ Παχύνου παρέπλεον ἀκτὴν κατὰ βʹ στοιχηδὸν ταξάμενοι ναῦς. καὶ αὖθις· οἱ γὰρ ἐνταῦθα ὑπὲρ ἐλευθερίας ἀποθανόντες ἀντανήγοντο τῇ Οἴτῃ.

Mt. Oita, in central Greece (Barrington Atlas map 55 grid C3 [Oeta Mons]), was the site of the death of Heracles; here Apollonius calls this to mind when contemplating the tomb of Leonidas and the 300 Spartans at Thermopylai (Barrington Atlas map 55 grid D3).
