Translation
If someone were to say that ignorance is a lack of understanding, he is mistaken. Ignorance is the condition [of being] wretched and beguiled.

Notes
- Abridged from Alexander of Aphrodisias, Commentary on Aristotle's Topics 472.3-9 Wallies. (He goes on to give an example to illustrate the issue : "the one who defines immortality as 'lack of death' will be mistaken, for immortality is not lack of of death but a condition, that is, a disposition".)
