Notes
- The headword verb is attested with this meaning in Nicetas of Paphlagonia (561c) and in Theodorus Studites (PG 99.1664 b,c); it refers there to the custom of wiping a fragrant liquid off the relics of a saint to use it for healing purposes. See also Constantine Porphyrogenitus, De contionibus militaribus 8.28 (aorist participle).
In this instance, however,a)pomuri/zw is most probably a scribal error or other orthographical corruption ofa)pomuouri/zw , which is itself a common, though incorrect, form ofa)pomeiouri/zw , "I dull the edge"; cf. E.A. Socrates, Greek Lexicon of the Roman and Byzantine Periods.
