Notes
- From the scholia to Aristophanes, Peace 526, where the headword, a feminine abstract noun, occurs in the genitive case.
The term astrateia did not literally mean 'peace' but denoted either exemption from military service (Aristophanes loc.cit.) or the offense of failing to appear for service when obliged (Aristophanes, Knights 444). See also: Lysias 14.6-7; Andocides 1.74; Aeschines 3.175-176; Plato, Laws 943A-945B; Pollux 6.151, 8.40. On this and other military offenses see chiefly Hamel (below).
