Translation

[Meaning] without consideration, mindlessly, ignorantly.¹
"Though he certainly had not guessed the king's opinion, he accomplished it quite unintentionally."²

Ἀβουλεί· ἀβούλως, ἀφρόνως, ἀμαθῶς. ὁ δὲ οὐ σφόδρα στοχαζόμενος τῆς τοῦ βασιλέως γνώμης ἀβουλότατα διεπράξατο.

2Polybius fr. 92 Büttner-Wobst. The quotation employs the superlative form of the adverb (a)boulo/tata) rendered here by 'quite unintentionally'. Although accepting the fragment himself, Büttner-Wobst notes that Dindorf maintained that this fragment cannot be genuinely Polybian, because Polybius does not use the verb diapra/casqai, except in a positive context (p. 527).
