Translation

They were in the habit of applying the [word] "always" even to a short time, as also/even Homer: "always having an unceasing anger."¹ Also Sophocles: "know well that he has quit his always life."² That is his long[-lasting] old age, his life/existence.

Ἀεί· εἰώθασι τὸ ἀεὶ καὶ ἐπ' ὀλίγου χρόνου τάττειν, ὡς καὶ Ὅμηρος· ἔχων κότον ἐμμενὲς αἰεί. καὶ Σοφοκλῆς· ὡς λελοιπότα κεῖνον τὸν ἀεὶ βίοτον ἐξεπίστασο. τουτέστι τὸ μακρὸν γῆρας, τὴν ζωήν.
