Translation

The [verb that means] to play. Plato in Laws [writes]: "again our maid and mistress,¹ charmed by the pastime of the dance, did not take the view that one should sport with empty hands."²

Ἀθύρειν· τὸ παίζειν. Πλάτων Νόμοις· ἡ δ' αὖ παρ' ἡμῖν Κόρη καὶ Δέσποινα εὐφρανθεῖσα τῇ τῆς χορείας παιδιᾷ, κεναῖς χερσὶν οὐκ ᾠήθη δεῖν ἀθῦραι. Ἀθύρω, ὁ ἐνεστώς.
