An adverb of indignation.1 It is applied also to pleasure by Aristophanes in Birds [writes]: "aiboi! There is nothing sweeter than flying!"2

Αἰβοῖ· σχετλιαστικὸν ἐπίρρημα. τάττεται δὲ καὶ ἐπὶ ἡδονῆς παρὰ Ἀριστοφάνει ἐν Ὄρνισιν· αἰβοῖ· οὐκ ἔστιν οὐδὲν τοῦ πέτεσθαι γλυκύτερον.
