Translation

Keian, [i.e.] from Keos↗ the island, but of the city Ioulis (for it has 4 cities, Ioulis, Karthaia, Koressia,¹ Poiessa), son of Medon,² [who was] the son of Bacchylides the athlete; a relative of Simonides the lyric poet,³ himself a lyric poet also.

Βακχυλίδης, Κεῖος, ἀπὸ Κέω τῆς νήσου, πόλεως δὲ Ἰουλίδος [ἔχει γὰρ πόλεις δʹ, Ἰουλίδα, Καρθαίαν, Κορεσσίαν, Ποιήεσσαν], Μέδωνος υἱὸς, τοῦ Βακχυλίδου τοῦ ἀθλητοῦ παιδός· συγγενὴς Σιμωνίδου τοῦ λυρικοῦ, καὶ αὐτὸς λυρικός.

Bacchylides, a contemporary and rival of Pindar, is reported to have written lyric hymns as well as odes addressed to human beings, collected by the Alexandrians in a total of nine books. His works were lost until 1896 when parts of two papyrus rolls of his epinicians and dithyrambs were discovered.
