[Meaning] a palm[s'-breadth]. And Homer [says]: 'it was sixteen hands'.

Notes

Homer, Iliad 4.109 (on the ibex horns which had been made into Pandarus' bow), with exegesis from the scholia there. Already at delta 1439, and again at epsilon 406. The Greek 'palm' equates to 3.04 inches, 7.71 cm.
