Translation

[Meaning] a tree [sc. of any kind],¹ the dru/s [when the vowel is] short.²
"No longer, Orpheus, will you break enchanted trees and rocks."³
And Homer [writes]: "either of an oak or of a pine, which does not rot in the rain."⁴

Δρῦς· τὸ δένδρον, τὸ δρυς βραχύ. οὐκέτι θελγομένας, Ὀρφεῦ, δρύας, οὐκέτι πέτραις ἄξεις. καὶ Ὅμηρος· ἢ δρυὸς ἢ πεύκης, τὸ μὲν οὐ καταπύθεται ὄμβρῳ.
