Translation

"You have a beard much finer than that of Epicrates". For this man had a large beard. He used to be called beard-bearer. And Plato the comedy-writer says: "o lord of the hairy lip, beard-bearer Epicrates."¹ And he used to be the butt of comedy for hairiness. He was a populist politician.

Ἐπικράτης· Ἐπικράτους οὐκ ὀλίγῳ καλλίονα πώγων' ἔχεις. οὗτος γὰρ μέγαν πώγωνα εἶχεν. ἐπεκαλεῖτο δὲ σακεσφόρος. καὶ Πλάτων ὁ κωμικός φησιν· ἄναξ ὑπήνης Ἐπίκρατες σακεσφόρε. καὶ ἐκωμῳδεῖτο εἰς δασύτητα. ἦν δὲ ῥήτωρ δημαγωγός.
