Notes
- The headword, the noun
ko/pis (not to be confused with the differently-accented kappa 2057), is found in Euripides, Hecuba 132 (web address 1), referring to Odysseus; see also the corresponding scholia.
Lycophron, having a predilection for nonce-words, uses it twice (Alexandra 763 and 1464). The scholia to these verses connect the nounko/pis with the verbko/ptw ;ko/pis is either the experienced man (u(po\ pollw=n pragma/twn kekomme/nos ) or the orator (para\ to\ ko/ptein tou\s lo/gous ).
The word is also attested in many lexicographical entries: ps.-Zonaras and Etymologicum Magnum (s.vv.ko/balos andko/pis ); Hesychius and Photius (s.v.a)rgu/rou ko/pis ); and Etymologicum Gudianum, which has two entries underko/pis .
