Licence
In short
The texts are Suda On Line’s, shared under CC BY-NC-SA 1.0. Credit SOL and the translators, don’t sell it, and share alike.
The texts
The translations, notes, bibliography and keywords on this site come from Suda On Line (SOL). SOL licenses them under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 1.0 licence (SOL’s statement of rights), and this site shares them under the same licence.
Not affiliated
ReadSuda is maintained independently. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Suda On Line or the Stoa Consortium. Corrections to a translation belong with SOL’s editors; every entry links to its original page on SOL, and Report a problem passes them on.
Attribution
Every entry page names its translator or translators, its vetting status and the people who revised it, as SOL records them, and links to the same Adler number on SOL. Where SOL records no translator the page says so rather than leaving the credit out. The texts are shown as SOL has them: this site adds link targets and note markers but does not rewrite, shorten or correct them.
Non-commercial
No ads, no paywall, no accounts and no gated content. Every entry, search and list is free to read, with or without JavaScript.
Citing an entry
Each entry ends with a citation in SOL’s own format, followed by the address where you read it here, for example:
Example citation
“Apollonius.” Suda On Line. Tr. Peter Green. 19 January 2005. <https://www.cs.uky.edu/~raphael/sol/sol-entries/alpha/3419>. Read at ReadSuda: <https://readsuda.org/alpha/3419>.
Add the date you accessed it if your style guide asks for one.
Reusing the texts
You may copy and adapt SOL’s texts for non-commercial purposes if you credit Suda On Line and the translator(s) of each entry and share what you make under the same licence. See the licence for the exact terms.

- Text written by ReadSuda, such as this page and About, is under CC BY 4.0.

- Anything ReadSuda derives from SOL’s texts, such as summaries or notes quoting them, is under SOL’s own licence, CC BY-NC-SA 1.0, and is marked as ReadSuda’s.
