Notes
- From Harpokration s.v.
The transmitted headwordbow/ths is a textually corrupt version -- contaminated, presumably, by beta 386 -- ofbow/nhs , "ox-buyer", for which see already beta 384.
It is not clear whether "from these" should read "to these" (cf.e)pi\ tou/tw| in Harpokration s.v.). At beta 384 ox-buyers are mentioned in connection with the strategia -- one of Athens' "greatest offices" -- but the ambiguity of the Greek there likewise makes it unclear whether generals tended to become ox-buyers or vice versa.
