Notes
- Abbreviated from Xenophon, Anabasis 1.4.9 (web address 1), which adds that these fish were regarded as divine and were accordingly protected.
The river 'Chalos' itself (again under phi 113) has been tentatively identified with the Belus; it flows near Beroia in Syria (Barrington Atlas map 67 grid E4).
