[Meaning] doubling, multiplying. Meaning which would you choose, if someone should give you a choice, grieving your friends yourself to live in pleasure, or to share everything and not to grieve your friends? He says [this] about Ajax: "that man, when he was in his disease, himself took pleasure in the misfortunes by which he was held, but being with us he gave distress to us who were in our right minds. But now, as he has ceased and recovered from his disease, that man is altogether driven by wretched grief, but we likewise [suffer] not less than before. He is unfolding these evils twice, is he not?"
