Translation

[Meaning] they parade, they disparage, they put to the test.¹ "For most men do not even try to imitate the achievements of the fortunate, but by striving for the inessentials they put their own lack of judgement on display".²

Ἐκθεατρίζουσιν· ἐκπομπεύουσιν, ἐκφαυλίζουσιν, ἐξελέγχουσιν. οἱ γὰρ πολλοὶ τὰ μὲν ἔργα τῶν εὐτυχούντων οὐ πειρῶνται μιμεῖσθαι, τὰ δὲ πάρεργα ζηλοῦντες ἐκθεατρίζουσι τὴν ἑαυτῶν ἀκρισίαν.
