Translation
[Meaning an] expectation of good things. He who feels fear also expects, but not good things; for fear is an expectation of bad things,1 but hope [is an expectation] of good things. Since then the impious expect things which do not exist, their hope is destroyed; they make use of pleasures as if they were lasting.
