[Meaning] releasing, shooting at.1 Sophocles [writes, using] ti/s in both clauses in common: "one who aims at great souls would not miss;" but aiming at worthless men, "one would not persuade" the hearer, but "envy crawls towards him who has." [This is said] figuratively from those who shoot arrows against a large body, who do not miss. What is said against great men is believed because of envy.2
