Notes (3)

  1. The headword concept (here as a present participle, from the quotation which follows) literally means changing a letter; this is more precisely illustrated under pi 317.
  2. 1Cf. the marginal note at nu 77 (from ms. M). ↩
  3. 2Diogenes Laertius 3.26; cf. Athenaeus, Deipnosophists 11.505E (11.113 Kaibel). The Suda's qu/mata should be qau/mata. ↩
  4. 3The source of the first of these phrases is unidentifiable. Concerning the second, however, Hermogenes attributes it to Thucydides, and the passage in question must therefore be Thuc. 8.16.1 (where 'ship' is left implicit): proslabw\n *sami/an mi/an. ↩
