Translation

[Meaning] they face the coolness and the breeze, in order to have some respite. It is somewhat like 'to be winter-cold'.1
"Nor was anyone carrying the shield or the cuirass for them, [i.e.] for those needing to cool down."2

Greek original · Adler’s text

Ψυχάζουσι· πρὸς τὸ ψύχος καὶ τὸ πνεῦμα διατρίβουσιν, ἵνα ἀναψυχήν τινα λάβωσιν. ἔστι δὲ ὅμοιον τῷ χειμάζειν. οὐδέ τις αὐτοῖς τὴν ἀσπίδα ἢ τὸν θώρακα ἔφερε, ψυχάσαι τοῖς δεομένοις.

Notes (2)

  1. For this verb see already psi 158.
  2. 1Likewise or similarly in other lexica. The headword must be quoted from somewhere but is not independently attested. ↩
  3. 2Quotation (transmitted, in Adler's view, via the Excerpta Constantini Porphyrogeniti) unidentifiable; it contains the aorist infinitive of the headword verb. ↩
