Translation

Aeschines [in the speech] Against Timarchus [uses the word].1 To dry-anoint is what they used to call anointing oneself without bath-water. But perhaps the so-called 'dry rubbing' by trainers was also so called.

Greek original · Adler’s text

Notes (1)

  1. Abbreviated from Harpokration s.v. See also xi 62.
  2. 1Aeschines 1.138. He quotes there a law (attributed to Solon in Plutarch, Solon 1) restricting exercise in the wrestling-schools, and all that went with it, to free men rather than slaves. ↩
