Translation
[Meaning] explanation. For a definition is an analytical statement expressing the definiendum precisely and summarily.1 Analysis [is] the recurrence of types from form to form. For [the verb] a)nalu/ein is said of the application of syllogistic syntheses to single entities and to the premises from which those [entities] have existence. [So], at any rate, according to the meaning of analysis in the Analytics written by Aristotle.

Ἀνάλυσις· ἐξάπλωσις. ὅρος γάρ ἐστι λόγος κατὰ ἀνάλυσιν ἀπαρτιζόντως ἐκφερόμενος τοῦ ὁριστικοῦ καὶ κεφαλαιωδῶς. ἀνάλυσις, ἡ ἐπὶ σχήματος ἐπὶ σχῆμα τῶν τρόπων ἀνακύκλησις. ἀναλύειν γὰρ λέγεται τὸ τοὺς συνθέτους συλλογισμοὺς ἀνάγειν εἰς τοὺς ἁπλοῦς καὶ εἰς τὰς προτάσεις, ἐξ ὧν αὐτοῖς τὸ εἶναι. κατὰ γοῦν τὸ σημαινόμενον τῆς ἀναλύσεως Ἀναλυτικὰ γέγραπται τὰ Ἀριστοτέλους.
