Translation

[Meaning the hour/time] not for selling things, but for the other transactions that go on in the marketplace at dawn, or indeed before the marketplace gets full.¹ Pherekrates [writes]: "always to drink and get drunk before the marketplace gets full".²

Ἀγορᾶς ὥραν· οὐ τῶν πωλουμένων, ἀλλὰ τῶν ἄλλων πράξεων τῶν κατ' ἀγορὰν ἕωθεν, ἢ καὶ πρὶν ἀγορὰν πεπληθέναι. Φερεκράτης· πίνειν ἀεὶ καὶ μεθύειν πρὶν ἀγορὰν πεπληθέναι.
