Translation

[Meaning he/she/it] prevented.¹
"He alone resisted and kept away the beast."²
And elsewhere: "and by continuously throwing heavy objects they prevented any damage to the wall."³

Ἀπήρυκεν· ἀπεκώλυεν. ὁ δὲ μόνος ὑφίστατο καὶ ἀπήρυκε τὸ θηρίον. καὶ αὖθις· καὶ βάρη συνεχῆ ἐπιβάλλοντες, ἀπήρυκον τοῦ λυμαίνεσθαί τι τοῦ τείχους.
