Translation

[sc. The term for] a wall built out of rubble without mortar in Herodotos;¹ what some [call] hedge-fence. Also the Ionians use [the word] thus. Herodotos makes [this] clear in his first [book]. But colloquially most people call that place which is enclosed by stone-fences a ai(masia/.

Αἱμασιά· τὸ ἐκ χαλίκων ᾠκοδομημένον τειχίον ἄνευ πηλοῦ παρὰ Ἡροδότῳ· ἥν τινες ἅρπεζον. καὶ Ἴωνες οὕτω χρῶνται. δηλοῖ δὲ Ἡρόδοτος ἐν τῇ πρώτῃ. φαύλως δὲ οἱ πολλοὶ τὸ χωρίον τοῦτο αἱμασιῶν περιεχόμενον αἱμασιὰν καλοῦσιν.
