Translation

The Theologian [writes] "not with the shinings of [sc. precious] stones."¹ This [word] is written with iota and is paroxytone; but in the Attic dialect it is proparoxytone. If the present discourse atticizes, we ought to make this word proparoxytone, saying diau/geia like a)me/leia ["negligence"].²

Διαυγία· ὁ Θεολόγος· μὴ λίθων διαυγίαις. τοῦτο διὰ τοῦ ι γράφεται καὶ παροξύνεται· προπαροξύνεται δὲ ἐν τῷ ἀττικίζειν. εἰ δὲ ὁ παρὼν λόγος ἀττικίζει, προπαροξύνειν ὀφείλομεν διαύγειαν λέγοντες, ὡς ἀμέλειαν.
