Translation

Meaning we destroyed.¹ For ska/rifon is twigs and sticks. And such things are easily destroyed and easily dissipated. So Isocrates [sc. uses the word].
[The verb] skarifh/sasqai is to do something perfunctorily and not with the appropriate accuracy.

Διεσκαριφησάμεθα· ἀντὶ τοῦ διελύσαμεν. σκάριφον γάρ ἐστι τὸ κάρφος καὶ φρύγανον. ἔστι δὲ τὰ τοιαῦτα εὐδιάλυτα καὶ εὐφύσητα. οὕτως Ἰσοκράτης. σκαριφήσασθαί ἐστι τὸ ἐπισεσυρμένως τι ποιεῖν καὶ μὴ κατὰ τὴν προσήκουσαν ἀκρίβειαν.
