Amongst Athenians the so-called king [sc. archon] first supervises the Mysteries, together with the superintendents whom the people used to elect. There were 4:¹ 2 from all Athenians, one from [the] Eumolpidai and one from [the] Kerykes.²

Ἐπιμελητὴς τῶν μυστηρίων· παρὰ Ἀθηναίοις ὁ λεγόμενος βασιλεὺς πρῶτον μὲν μυστηρίων ἐπιμελεῖται μετὰ τῶν ἐπιμελητῶν, οὓς ὁ δῆμος ἐχειροτόνει. δʹ δὲ ἦσαν ʹ22βʹ μὲν ἐξ Ἀθηναίων ἁπάντων, εἷς δὲ ἐξ Εὐμολπιδῶν καὶ εἷς ἐκ Κηρύκων.
