Translation

[Meaning] those who are due to receive pay.¹ "The Huns became no less mercenaries when they were looting the property of the Romans."²

Ἔμμισθοι· οἱ ὀφείλοντες λαβεῖν μισθόν. οἱ δὲ Οὖννοι οὐδέν τι ἧσσον ἔμμισθοι ἐγίνοντο ληϊζόμενοι τὰ Ῥωμαίων.

[1] Nominative plural of this adjective, presumably extracted from the quotation given.
2Quotation not identified by Adler but identifiable via the TLG as an approximation of Procopius, Secret History 11.7 (web address 1). Procopius describes how Justinian (cf. iota 446 generally) paid bounties to Hun chieftains to secure peace, but that they continued to pillage--even within the Roman empire--while still collecting monetary rewards from the emperor when the raids were finished; cf. Kaldellis (50-51).
