Aeschines [in the speech] Against Ktesiphon [sc. uses the phrase].1 Different lawsuits were allotted to different archons,2 and each of the officials used to take into a jurycourt, as president and chairman, the cases which the law on each had allocated to him. For instance, to the [eponymous] Archon [went cases] of orphans and heiresses; to the King those of impiety; to the polemarch those of both having no patron and neglecting a patron;3 to the thesmothetai those of being a foreigner and bribery by a foreigner and malicious prosecution and wrongful registration and outrageous assault and seduction and conspiracy4 and others.
