Translation
[Meaning] wan and corpse-like [ones]. Or impious and god-battling [ones], because of the Giants. Thus Aristophanes accuses philosophers in Clouds: "did you learn these clever things by going to the earth-born ones?"1 Also [sc. attested is the phrase] "by an earth-born gust", meaning one great enough that it makes earthquakes; for [it was] an ancient supposition that the earth quaked when seized by winds. Aristophanes [sc. uses the phrase].2
Also called "earth-born ones" are those who think earthly thoughts.
