Translation

A kind of small winged animal. [Named] from having the wings encased in its body as if in a sheath.¹
[sc. This is true] of the so-called cockchafer and the dung-beetle.²

Κολεόπτερον· εἶδος ζωϋφίου πτηνοῦ. παρὰ τὸ ὡς ἐν κουλεῷ τὰ πτερὰ συνέχειν τῷ ἐλύτρῳ. τῆς μηλολόνθου λεγομένου καὶ τοῦ κανθάρου.
