Translation

[Meaning] bones.¹
"The she-camel folded her limbs under and seated herself on her breast."²
And elsewhere: "sitting on the ends of leaves you shrill with saw-like limbs on dark skin a lyric strain."³

Κῶλα· τὰ ὀστᾶ. ἡ δὲ κάμηλος ὑφῆκε τὰ κῶλα καὶ ἑαυτὴν ἐκάθισεν εἰς τὰ στέρνα. καὶ αὖθις· ἄκρα δ' ἐφεζόμενος πετάλοις πριονώδεσι κώλοις αἰθίοπι κλάζεις χρωτὶ μέλισμα λύρας.

3Greek Anthology 7.196.3-4 (Meleager [Author, Myth]), an invitation to a cicada to make music; cf. Gow and Page, vol. I (220) and vol. II (616-617). The beginning of this epigram is quoted at alpha 368. Gow and Page explain (ibid.) that cicadas stridulate by forcing air through vibrating thoracic membranes, not as Meleager describes here, which applies only to locusts and grasshoppers.
