Translation

[Nesis, genitive] *nh/sidos: name of a city,1 and name of a goddess.2
But [sc. note that differently-accented] *nhsi=dos [is] the [genitive of the] diminutive.
In the Epigrams: "the sea-worn reefs of the coastal islet".3

Notes (3)

  1. Despite the primary glosses, it is not certain whether this headword is anything other than the diminutive of nh=sos (nu 343), i.e. "islet".
  2. 1Not otherwise attested as such (but merely that of a small river, the present-day Mzymta, flowing into the NE Black Sea; cf. Barrington Atlas map 87 grid F1). ↩
  3. 2Not otherwise attested as such. ↩
  4. 3Greek Anthology 6.89.1-2 (Maecius); from alpha 1236. Find another extract from this epigram at upsilon 89. ↩
