Translation
[Meaning sc. the act of] going forth on the sea.
Greek original · Adler’s text
Ναύπλιος· ἡ ἐν θαλάσσῃ πρόοδος.
Betacode
*nau/plios: h( e)n qala/ssh| pro/odos.
Notes
- The headword has the same glossing in ps.-Zonaras and, according to Adler, the Ambrosian Lexicon. LSJ (including the Supplement) ignores this sense while registering several others, principally a kind of shellfish (Periplous of the Red Sea 17); the word appears as a variant reading for
nauti/los (nu 85) in Artemidorus.
