[Produced] by a change of the "r" [of] o)du/rsh , that is, Thracian.1 Or from "to lament" [o)du/resqai ]: that is to say producing a wail and a lamenting cry. Aristophanes [writes]: "some spear-head stuck into me through the bones lamentably."

Notes (1)
- The Lamachus character in Aristophanes, Acharnians 1226 (which has the neuter plural
o)durta/ [sic] used as an adverb: web address 1), with scholion. The present headword,o)durtikh/ , does not occur in the passage and is presumably a slip. - 1cf. omicron 61. ↩
