Notes
- Likewise in the Synagoge and Photius' Lexicon. The headword, a neuter noun related to the verb
filotexne/w , has two senses noted by LSJ s.v.: chef d'oeuvre, in rhetorical writers, inc. Cicero (Letters to Atticus 13.40.1) and cunningly devised trap (for catching a giant snake) in Diodorus Siculus 3.37.6. D.S. has several other attestations of the word (which becomes more frequent later), in fact.
