Translation

Meaning safeguards from cities or forts or certain other powers adopted with a view to being safe and strong. So Demosthenes [sc. uses the word].1 In Aeschines the word "probole" arose from putting the name of someone forward as a wrongdoer.2

Greek original · Adler’s text

Notes (2)

  1. Abbreviated from Harpokration s.v. The headword noun (pi 2346) is here accusative plural.
  2. 1[Demosthenes] 17.25 (web address 1). ↩
  3. 2Aeschines 2.145. This is the Athenian legal procedure of probole, for which see already under pi 2327 (Demosthenes 21.1), and again pi 2346. ↩
